Nuijunjärvi Wetland

The Nuijunjärvi Wetland was completed in 2015 after a two-year project. It’s Finland’s largest wetland, covering an area of 40 hectares. The restoration of the wetland was prompted by the deteriorated condition of Nuijunjärvi, which, through restoration, became an excellent wetland for the environment and recreational use. The construction and volunteer work for the wetland were carried out by the Haapajärvi Northern Hunting Association, with funding obtained through the North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centre).
