Beautiful Arch Bridge in Stunning Scenery

The construction of the Lover’s Bridge was finished in the fall of 2022. The Lover’s Bridge collapsed in 2020, having been originally completed in 1965. The reconstruction of this bridge is funded by the Christmas gift money allocated by the parliament. The parliament granted funds for the demolition of the collapsed old Love Bridge and the construction of the new one.

Haapajärvi’s Lover’s Bridge has long been a symbol of Haapajärvi. The arched bridge connecting Ylipää and Karjalahdenranta is owned by the city of Haapajärvi.

Lover’s Bridge in Haapajärvi is an arched bridge intended for pedestrian traffic located near Ylipää School. The bridge spans a river channel through which the waters of the Päijänne water system flowed into the Kalajoki River and further into the Gulf of Bothnia before the land uplift redirected the flow towards the Gulf of Finland around the year 4200 BCE.

The first pedestrian bridge for Ylipää School students was completed in 1915. When spring floods damaged this bridge, a new arch bridge was built in its place in 1926.
